Sue BedfordSue Bedford qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1980. She worked in a variety of specialities in both NHS and private hospitals in London over the following years. In 1987, she moved to Bedford and took a 10 year career break to have her four children.

Sue undertook a Return to Nursing course in 1998, initially working in the Outpatients department at Bedford Hospital in the Gastro-Intestinal, Colo-Rectal and Breast Clinics.  Whilst there, she completed a diploma course in Health Promotion at the University of Luton.  Her passion for health screening came about when she took up a Practice Nurse post, which also led to her interest in cardiovascular health.

Sue left the surgery in 2002 to do medicals on a freelance basis for insurance companies. During this time, she also completed a diploma course in Nutrition. This gave her the opportunity to set up a company called Healthy Choices offering nutrition & lifestyle advice plus a range of health products, locally.

When Sue heard about a new artery screening device in early 2005, she realised this would be an ideal tool to check for early signs of cardiovascular disease. After an article about the device appeared in the national newspapers, she was soon booking tests locally.

Shortly after, Sue decided to set up Pulse Health Screening as a separate company to offer health assessments and a wide range of medical tests and services within a 25 mile radius of Bedford, most of which are unavailable anywhere else in the region. She also works in collaboration with other health and fitness-related companies to extend the services that they each offer.

As an enthusiastic researcher, Sue frequently writes articles for magazines and blogs on a variety of health topics. She also gives health promotion talks to local groups and companies with a strong emphasis on disease prevention, as she believes everyone should know how to take responsibility for their own health.

Sue is currently writing her first book about healthy living, based on her research and experience to date.
